the history of valentine days, "valentine is about love"

According to the chronicle of ancient Athens calendar, the period between mid-January to mid February is the month of Gamelion, dedicated to the sacred marriage of Zeus and Hera god. You know god Zeus? the father-nye hercules.

In ancient Rome, February 15th is the feast of Lupercalia, a celebration of Lupercus, the god of fertility, which represented half-naked and dressed in goat skins. As a purification ritual, the priests of Lupercus meyembahkan goat sacrifice to the gods and then after drinking wine, they will run around the streets of Rome holding a piece of sheepskin and touching anyone they met on the road. Some historians say this as a precursor for Valentine's Day.

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, the name of Valentinus believed to be referring to the three martyrs or saints (holy men) are different, namely the following:
priest in Rome
bishop Interamna (modern Terni)
martyr in the Roman province of Africa.
The relationship between these three martyrs feast of love (Valentine) is unclear. Even Pope Gelasius I, in the year 496, states that in fact nothing is known about these martyrs, but the day February 14 is set as a memorial feast of saint Valentine. Some say that Pope Gelasius I accidentally set it to outperform the feast of Lupercalia which was celebrated on February 15.
Skeletal remains unearthed from the tomb of Saint Hyppolytus, identified as the body of St. Valentinus. Then placed in a coffin of gold and sent to the church Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church in Dublin, Ireland. The body has been given to them by Pope Gregory XVI in 1836. Many travelers now make pilgrimages to this church on Valentine's Day (February 14), where the coffin of the gold carried in a procession and brought to a high altar. On that day made a special Mass was held and dedicated to the young people and those who are in a relationship of love.

This feast is removed from the ecclesiastical calendar in 1969 as part of a broader effort to remove saints that its origin is unclear, dubious and based only on the legend. But the feast is still celebrated in some parishes.
The first record of association of the feast of St. Valentine with romantic love is in the 14th century in England and France, where it is believed that February 14 is the day when the birds looking for a partner for mating. This belief is written in Middle English literary works of Geoffrey Chaucer named. He writes in a story Parlement of Foules (Conversation Birds) that:
For this was sent on Seynt Valentyne's day (that is shipped on the day of Saint Valentine) Whan every foul Cometh ther to choose his mate (When all the birds come there to pick a partner)

At the time it was common for lovers to exchange notes on Valentine's Day and Valentine couple to call them. A Valentine card from the 14th century is said to be part of the manuscript collection of the British Library in London. Chances are many legends about the saint of Valentinus was created at this time. Some of them told me that:

The evening before Valentine was a saint will die as a martyr (martyr), he has written a statement that it provides little love to his prison warden is written "From Valentinusmu".
When the Roman soldiers were forbidden to marry by the Emperor Claudius II, St. Valentine secretly helped marry them secretly.
In most versions of these legends, February 14 is connected to a miscarriage as a martyr.
The story of St. Valentine

Valentine was a priest who lived in Rome in the third century. He lived in the kingdom which was led by the notorious Emperor Claudius. He hated the emperor. Claudius ambitious to have a large military force, he wants all the men in her kingdom to join in dalamya.

But unfortunately, this desire is not supported. The men are reluctant to engage in warfare. Because they do not want to leave her family and boyfriend. This made Claudius furious, he immediately ordered officials to conduct a crazy idea.

Claudius thought that if men do not marry, they will gladly join the military. Then Claudius forbade the marriage. The young couple's decision when it considers it highly implausible. Hence St. Valentine refused to carry it out.

St. Valentine still carry out his duties as pastor, that married couples are in love even though in secret. This action became known by the emperors who immediately gave him a warning, but he ignored and continue to bless the marriage in a small chapel, lit only by candles.

Until one night, he caught one of the blessed couple. The couple managed to escape, but poor St. Valentine was caught. He was imprisoned and sentenced to death by beheading. Instead of being insulted by the people, St. Valentine even visited by many people who support that action. They threw flowers and messages of support in the window of the prison where he was detained.

One of the people who believe that love is the daughter of the prison guards themselves. The father allowed his daughter to visit St. Valentine. Quite often they talked for a long time. The girl was rekindled spirit of the preacher. He agreed that St. Valentine has done the right thing eh benul correct alias.

Celebration of Valentine's Day has historical roots of some of the stories passed down through generations to the Romans and the Christians their heirs. The most famous story about his origin is that the Romans once believed that Romulus (founder of Rome) suckled by a she-wolf, the wolf gave him physical strength and intelligence of the mind. The Romans commemorated this event in mid-February each year with a magnificent memorial. Among the ritual is to slaughter a goat and dog, and his blood to his two young dilumurkan a strong physique. Then they washed the blood with milk. After that began the march of the second young man in front of the group. Both take two pieces of leather that they use to stain everything they come across.
